When is it due to be released? No idea when Thanksgiving it but that looks amazing, always imagined him with an english accent though (although.. that could be because I read in my own voice.. haha)
I love the style![]()
AHHHHH! I think this is like the first proper book i read all the way through! Because my brother read it and i was young so wanted to be like him.
Saw this trailer in the cinema pretty recently, looked alright, would definitely go see it but didn't think it looked like anything special.
Currently due out in the UK on the 23rd October.Originally Posted by Danny

So what if it's based off a great Roald Dahl book? I love Roald Dahl, he's phenomenal, but that didn't save the James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Danny the Champion of the World films, did it? Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was good, though.
It shouldn't be Americanised because it's a distinctly British thing, that's not to say that if it was going to be done with British actors etc it'd be good, or that an American version couldn't be good, just that as it stands it doesn't look like it's being handled very well at all (for me), and the Americanism is a reason why.
Oh and stop motion, who cares? A film isn't more likely to be good just because it's been done in stop motion...
man i loved james and the giant peach as a kid
anyway the people making this movie are american and don't have any obligation to make their film british, i think it's a bit snobby to expect them to potentially alienate the larger and more crucial audience just to appease people in the country the story originated. i mean i'd be happier if it was british too but i understand that america dominates the film industry and while brits are totally familiar with american culture americans are not as familiar with ours. and at the end of the day it's their call, the film is their baby.
stop motion who cares? dont get me starteddd
the film in terms of plot etc isn't likely to be good just because it's done in stop motion, but using that medium is a quality in itself. it's not like the wallace and gromit films would be as popular and acclaimed if they were made in flash with zany cartoon characters or something.
aesthetically this film looks fantastic and we know the story is fantastic cos it's roald friggin dahl so i conclude THIS LOOKS FANTASTIC

The other Roald Dahl films that were adapted had fantastic stories too and have generally been nothing at all to write home about.
It might look nice, but there's much more to a good film than that.
You haven't given me a single reason why the film is going to be "special"
From the looks of the trailer all that seems to have happened is another film studio is going to ruin another great story.
i think the other films adapted from roald dahl books have been really good. granted i haven't seen most of them since childhood but i'm pretty sure at least matilda and willy wonka and the chocolate factory were great.
obv there's more to a film than what it looks like but what it looks like is still very important, especially for animated films. the fact it's stop-motion and looks good aesthetically is the reason it looks pretty special

Other than Willy Wonka, all the other adaptations have been average at best.
But how can you say a film looks to be special if it's just based on the aesthetics? A film needs more than that to be anywhere near special, really.
the aesthetics are what i see, i haven't seen the whole film so can't really comment on how good the plot and writing are overall but i haven't seen anything to suggest they'd be awful either
and i would disagree that an animated film needs anything other than to look exceptional (and perhaps to have a good story which we know this does) to be regarded as special.
it looks quite funny too so that's a plus

That's just idiotic, just because something looks good doesn't mean I'd want to watch it, if it was devoid of any good story, poorly adapted, then I couldn't make myself sit through it, and if that's the case how could it possibly be special?
i saw it tonight and its hands down one of the best films i have seen this year, maybe even ever. total feel good movie, the whole thing was just so well made and really well adapted for film from the book.
i wanna go see it again![]()
