SUPER EXCITED? not really.
Looking forward to it? Yes.
Its a shame I can't stack 20 tanks on a single tile anymore and steamroll everything![]()
anyone else SUPER EXCITED for this?
i actually won't be able to get it since i recently got a mac, but i'm hoping that this makes it to mac sooner rather than later (civ 4 took a year to port i think).

i'm glad stacks are gone, that was incredibly annoying.
It makes it more realistic and more challenging.
I look forward to more epic 9 hour games that result in me ruining my sleep pattern before I have a practical to do.
you mean the removal of stacks makes it more realistic? if so i agree.
probably better i can't get it, have enough to do without 9 hour civ marathons. it's just so hard to stop once you start..
ONE MORE TURN.
it's like pringles, once you pop, you just can't stop! Although I haven't played it in ages..
yeah before last week i hadn't played since april. all these classes about european history made me want to create a sprawling empire again.
looking forward to it, doubt it'll beat alpha centuri though
FREEMASONS RUN THE COUNTRY
I was never able to get into Alpha Centauri.
I've played my fair shair of civ but my dad puts me to shame when playing as i believe on chieften difficulty he managed to get 300Mill population on the original civ which FYI is F'in loads on civ 1
Civ 5 is fun although BUGGY AS SHIT.
Was going for the dom victory and managed to get into war with Iroquois but made a peace treaty before I got their capital, thought i'd save them for later after I went to asia & europe as I had surrounded them anyway. 100 turns later (and the treaty was for 10 turns), "declare war" was still greyed out. Had to win by a time victory.
FUCKING. GAY.
lol gutted dannyI'm still waitig for my main PC parts to get back after RM screwed up on delivery so it will take as long as it will take.
the treaty was only 10 turns and should of ended, and in deal history it was expired, but declare war was still greyed out.
It's happening to many players, sometimes happens with open borders treaties too..
edit; they just released a patch which fixed that, if the patch isn't too big i'll download it via mobile broadband, if not, i'm taking my laptop into uni tomorrow lols.

yeah i've read about some buggyness, i think civ 4 was also rather buggy when it was released.
much of the criticism i've read though seems to be directed at how civ 5 has simplified and streamlined many things. not being able to play the game i can't comment on this, but i know that civ 4 was rather bloated at times. particularly in the end game, controlled gigantic empires became something of a chore. also, i've been playing the game for over a year now and i still don't know what half of the information provided on the city screen means.
i don't get why some people are so upset over religion being gone either.
I don't get why people care about religion either, just became a bit of a chore.
However I do think they simplified it TOO much. I miss the massive line graphs at the end of the game, now you just get the ending stats, not how you did during the entire game (kinda annoying considering I wanna know what I need to improve on).
I do like the simplification though, I can actually understand most of the game.
Oh, and when you start the game you get a intro video which can't be skipped, know why? It masks a loading screen. I wish they just put a real loading screen because hearing "welcome back son..." every time you load it is pissing annoying.
oh whattt the graphs were one of my fav parts, it was awesome seeing how my civ compared to the others. it was cool picking out certain events (war, expansion, etc) using the lines.
my last game of civ 4 weeks ago was probably my first time actually using religion in a strategic sense, as i tried to convert england and persia to mine so we could be stronger allies (it kinda worked). however, i've never been able to do these "crusades" other players talk about, as it's pretty difficult to get other nations to change their religion for you.
i've read in some reviews that the AI is somewhat over aggressive, making it nearly impossible to pursue victory without raising a large army. is this true? i mean that was pretty much true in civ 4.
yeah they tend to do that
but if you think about it in the context that they also want to win, it makes sense, right?
If you're going for a cultural victory you'll only have like 4 cities at most, a larger civ will want to take you over. Unfortunately this means you'll need to raise an army to fend of attacks, but it's not that hard.
Well you obviously can't go to war if you've got a peace treaty.
It's a peace treaty (though it's kinda a shame you can't be a cunt and break it)..
man the fan backlash over this game is getting a little absurd.
been a mostly possitive reaction from what I've seen, fucking love it myself, way better than 4
buggy as fuck though, they really need to get a patch out

note the number of bad user reviews.
I downloaded civ v cause everyone was jizzing over it and I'm really not sure why.. It wasnt my type of game, I found it to slow and boring.
But I have yet to play multiplayer.
so it's a bit of a disappointment on my mac, almost entirely due to the visuals. i have to keep everything low because my laptop just barely squeaks into the minimum system requirements, which means that the "fog of war" is an untextured black mass, and the diplomatic interactions aren't animate.
Can't really blame it if you don't have the recommended sys specs.
