they usually take it off the bill if everyone shows up
I'm really pissed off, my friend just text me to tell me that she needs £5 from everyone because she had to play £5 per person because over 8 people are going for a meal?! Is this normal? Do you get it back if everyone shows up? Or do you never see it again?
I probably wouldn't of been that bothered, but I really can't justify throwing money away at the moment. Especially when I factor in presents (joint birthday), train fare, meal, drinks and club entry. I'm just gonna have to sit and sip on tap water.

+ i just want four walls and adobe slats for my girls
Do YOU get yours back, but your friend doesn't if they dont show up?
Or do you just lose the whole lot if one person drops out?! ;\
I think its normally around here, if we hire a booth then between 5 its like £20 each but we get that on a tab.
Put your PAWS up!
Never heard of a table charge before.
Aw, GD, are Morrisons not paying you enough?![]()
grapevine fires.
never heard of it but 'table charge' implies you don't get it back to me. 'table deposit' would imply the opposite

That's possibly a better way to describe it, Neil.
Still not happy about it. Especially considering the people that are going will want to split everything equally and I'll be like "ummm my meal was half the price of yours and I had a pint, you had several bottles of wine between you."
Not enough for this and London.![]()

take enough cash that you can make up your meal cost exactly and when you're finished dump it on the table before they have a chance to gyp you

Sounds almost like the bar deposit you have to pay to book a venue for an event, that i can understand but charging people extra for a large table seems like overkill to me and if anything would put me off going there!
Also not a fan of splitting one bill between everyone for the exact same reasons as Gary, last time i did that i ended up paying £25 for a chili and 2 vodkas :s

if its anything like when we go for meals with work they'll take it off whatever your meal costs and whoever doesn't turn up will lose out on the £5 cus they don't go for the meal.
But darling I want the same thing that I wanted before.
So sweetheart tell me what's up? I won't stop, no way..
When you put it like that Liz, it doesn't seem so bad. I just don't like being trapped into things.
I've just got news though, the place we're going to specialises in noodle... I'm not a big noodles fan. Probably be Wagamamas or something.![]()

Update: I ended up missing the train everyone else got... and have still to pay my £5.
We went to a really lush teppanyaki restaurant, quite pricey, but worth it for the hilarious chefs and amazing food.

Yeah it's quite normal when you go to a nicer venue than most, purely so they can avoid a table being reserved when no-one is going to turn up so they don't lose out on possible rev, just a deposit scheme. I don't like them though!! lol.
The pub restaurant place that I've booked a meal for my friend and I for her birthday requires a £5 deposit per person, it's taken off the bill, but you don't get it back if you don't turn up, even for a bloody good reason.
