Habboforum or [HF], and later Habbo.net, was an English speaking internet forum based on the popular teen virtual world, Habbo Hotel. Originally founded in early 2002 by Cringle. When the domain expired, it was re-registered by DJMO. The forum was soon re-launched by both, DJMO and Stephen. Its boards were the birthplace of the current In Before The Lock community. It ran from May 2003 as Habboforum, from May 2007 as Habbo.net and from June 2008 as Slicedthread in a move away from Habbo.
The board became inactive in April 2009 when many users and staff decided to move to the current In Before The Lock website.
History
Primarily the forum was used to post Habbo related discussion. Between 2003 and 2004 it quickly became a popular way for Habbo Hotel users to trade, find information, engage in conversation and post Habbo related artwork for critical review. In 2005, Habboforum successfully gained official fansite status on Habbo UK giving the site a boost in new registrations and forum activity.
In 2006, following a forum restart, interest in Habbo amongst older users began to decline and the strict rules put in place as a result of the official status became increasingly unpopular. The Habbo related boards were left inactive while general topics continued to flourish. Around this time, HabboForum became Habbo.net, and there were plans for other content on the site, such as a Habbo Wiki. None of these happened, not least due to the server being 'taken down' by the hackers and only the forum restored (work had begun on the Habbo Wiki, but it had never been publicly released). However, activity steadily declined throughout 2007. In May 2008, after much deliberation, Habboforum ceased to operate under the Habbo brand and as an official fansite, resulting in the creation of SlicedThread.
SlicedThread
SlicedThread or [ST] was the third domain under which the former HabboForum community operated. The forum operated from the middle of 2008 through to the early months of 2009. Many changes were bought about to the staff team, including the introduction of Gav as site manager, and the return of many former staff members, including Adam and Kaleigh. During this time, the forum underwent many positive changes, primarily as a result of a more active and involved administration team. However, Gav was later removed from his site manager position. It was not long before the staff team became unhappy with the running of the forum, resulting in the birth of In Before The Lock. It is speculated that the attempted move to Invision forum software left many of the users angry, as many problems occurred when trying to move posts and members from vBulliten. It was soon realised that IPB would not be suitable, and the forum returned to vBulletin. However, it left a lasting impression upon all members, including staff, who had spent many days on the move. The design team, lead by Adam and assisted by Neil(?), had created a new skin for IPB in record time, which had to be abandoned (however was later ported back to vBulletin)
